  • UFO declares 2012 as the year of the world tour

Popular rock group UFO has recently declared a global tour that it will be embarking on next summer which is to go on for 150 dates and will cover every part of North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and South America. The tour commemorates its 50th year of existence and has a new lead singer Johnny Storm, however, the core members of the band are Phil Mogg on vocals and Andy Parker on drums.

UFO gained popularity in the 70s and early 80s as one of the leaders of the new wave of British heavy metal with their mix of blues-influenced hard rock and tough style of vocals. Boasting singles such as “Lights Out,” “Too Hot to Handle,” and “Only You Can Rock Me,” UFO became a mainstay in the classic rock scene. Although they never attained the popularity of other bands of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement such as Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, UFO managed to sustain a loyal audience throughout their existence due to their energetic live shows and a string of good singles and albums.

This would be the first tour where UFO would be going without Michael Schenker, the guitarist and bandleader, who left the group in 2019 for a solo career. He will be replaced by 23-year-old guitar prodigy Johnny Storm whom Mogg and Parker stumbled upon on YouTube playing UFO songs. While initially, an odd selection, Storm impressed the veterans during his audition and is now getting ready for the shows by memorizing the entire UFO repertoire.

The tour will start at the Madison Square Garden in New York on June 1 and will continue throughout the summer crisscrossing through the North American amphitheaters and various festivals in cities like Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, Denver, Los Angeles, and many others. Then in the fall, UFO goes to Europe for an extensive tour of arena shows starting from London and going all the way to Berlin, Rome and so much more.

Next year, the rock icons are due to perform large-scale concerts in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, and the rest of South America before crossing the Tasman for their first shows in Australia since 1983. Following performances in Japan, South Korea, and other places in Southeast Asia before the grand rock n roll tour ends in December 2020 with a New Year’s Eve concert.

In between the club and theatre shows, UFO intends to balance by performing in other venues across various cities to allow die-hard fans to get closer to the band. These exclusive shows will incorporate tracks that are unfamiliar to the general public and other goodies that UFO fans only know.

When asked why the aging rockers would commit to such an intensive tour at this point in their careers, drummer Andy Parker simply said “It’s now or never. UFO has never played at this level before. With the buzz around Johnny Storm, the time feels right to mount the ultimate UFO tour we’ve always dreamed about. We’ve been blown away by the fan response so far and can’t wait to hit the road. Lock up your daughters because

UFO’s objective is to perform in every country that they have a large following in. Future tour plans for 2021 and beyond include Sweden, Finland Russia, Greece, Israel South Africa, India China, and more.

Older fans will have a chance to listen to all their favorite songs such as “Lights Out”, “Rock Bottom”, “Doctor Doctor”, “Shoot Shoot” and many others, as well as songs that hadn’t been played live by the band for at least thirty years. There is also a claim that a few new songs will be thrown into the show for the first time since 2015’s A Conspiracy of Stars album.

Of course, with a fifty years long list of hits to choose from, it will be impossible for UFO to perform each of the most popular songs at each of the locations of such a long global tour. Thus, fans are encouraged to catch multiple dates to see and hear everything that UFO intends to bring out during this unique festival of their music.

Being able to go on tour for the first time in over a decade, UFO is eager to get back into the action. Speaking on behalf of the whole band, guitarist and keyboardist Paul Raymond urged fans to come out and catch a show: “This is going to be the biggest party that UFO has ever thrown We will bring out all the stops because who knows if we will get another chance to do a monster tour like this? The planets have aligned for UFO to take things to the next level with Johnny Storm So, let us all celebrate 50 years of rocking with UFO!”
