Tesla, an American rock band that has been in existence for several decades, is famous for its charged performances. Songs such as “Love Song,” “What You Give,” and “Signs” fan the imagination of youthful and mature audiences whenever performed before an enthusiastic audience in an arena. Tesla’s guitarist Frank Hannon, and vocalist Jeff Keith both appear to draw energy from the audience, bringing out their rock stardom to the level best seen.
However, Tesla has not performed a proper coast-to-coast headline tour of the United States since 2014, for the promotion of their album, Simplicity. That tour saw them playing giant venues such as the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, and Terminal 5 in New York. It captivated the audience and left them wanting more which up until today Tesla has not produced a second part. Apart from sporadic live shows such as concerts and festival performances, the band has been actively recording new music in the studio. However, their fans, or rather the fan base that loves this band have waited quite impatiently for the day that Tesla tells everyone they are going back on the road for a large-scale tour.
The main reason why Tesla has not toured recently is as simple as COVID-19. Almost all Music artists halting live performances since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. While vaccine rollouts offered hope in 2021, and numerous bands unveiled their touring plans, Tesla did not. As bands such as Guns n Roses, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, and so on were planning grand stadium and arena tours, Tesla stayed dormant.
Frank Hannon, during an interview in September 2021, made it clear that Tesla had no plans for a tour anytime soon but was in the process of recording music. He told her they would be going on tour again once the situation was less risky. Jeff Keith also expressed the same concerns in his past interviews but he also stated that they did not feel comfortable in planning shows that they may have to cancel constantly. They decided to patiently wait for the appropriate time to give the Tesla fans the perfect show they wanted to see.
Now in the unfolding of 2022, it appears that several circumstances can pave the way for Tesla to get back on the road by the end of the year or in 2023. All bands are now back on the road and ticket sales for major rock tours are again above pre-Covid levels. And it’s rumored that Tesla has another new record completed and awaiting release sometime in spring 2022. It may seem like fate for Tesla to finally provide the fans with an electric live experience that they’ve been anticipating.
As for what a new nationwide Tesla tour could be like, they have several possibilities to headline their concerts at mid-size venues and casinos as in the last years. However, as with any excitement that occurs after their long absence, Tesla could book even bigger rooms as their popularity grows. This powerful melodic blue-collar rock with passionate vocals of Jeff Keith should be perfect for arena gigs with audiences of 15,000-20,000 people. Performing on a double bill or a co-headline tour with a band such as Styx or REO Speedwagon would also pull big crowds.
Of course, the beloved acoustic performances of Tesla could not remain without being reflected in future tour scenarios either. Their acoustic performances of such songs as “Love Song,” “Signs, and What You Give” give the listeners a unique view of the band’s discography. These acoustic setups are usually performed in theatre-like settings, and the concerts are usually sold out within a short period. Honestly, any city where Tesla would perform for a huge rock concert would require an acoustic show too.
Reports were suggesting that Tesla plans to perform in Europe, the UK, and possibly Australia as part of the next world tour as well. Having played only occasionally abroad in the recent past, Tesla is ripe for a more comprehensive tour of foreign countries. Jeff Keith’s aggressive vocal performance and Frank Hannon’s impressive guitar solos have ensured that Tesla has fans all over the world after all. Their fans across the globe need some live love for once.
Of course, in addition to entity-wide headline dates, Tesla’s summer festival bookings will undoubtedly be packed with huge crowds too. As the festival warriors with prior experience from Destination Festivals like Rocklahoma or as the headliner at various massive events like Welcome to Rockville and Aftershock, Tesla is a beast before large audiences. Their anthemic hits and old-school rock swagger make them ideal for fiery festival performances in the heat of the day. Increasing their activity at the European summer festivals would seem another logical step as well.
Finally, after years of tracking, reviewing, and waiting, the time comes for Tesla to return and regain the title of one of the best live bands in America. Stadiums, theaters, and arenas await the chance to host full Tesla concerts that may last between 2 and 3 hours. Brimming with hits, obscure tracks, covers, ballad breaks, and torched numbers, Tesla concerts are nearly close to satisfying the thirst of their fans.
The COVID-19 pandemic cut Tesla’s touring shorter than it would have liked, but 2022 or 2023 look to be Tesla’s rebound. Their reputations as large-hearted musicians indicate that they would be capable of revisiting some markets – thrice, with large rock concerts and intimate acoustic performances. Having to wait for this opportunity since 2014, Tesla’s avid fans will come out in numbers to watch the band on headline tour again.
Got Tesla fever? Stay tuned for tour updates because the legendary rockers may be ready to tour again very soon. It will surely go down as one of the biggest celebrations that the world deserves for such one of the most influential but underrated bands in the modern rock scene. The looming tour by Tesla made everyone realize that there is still more magical live power that is yet to be exhibited by this incredibly gifted group of five musicians.
