Shawn Colvin is an American singer-songwriter and musician whose music has been touching listeners’ hearts for more than three decades. While she has not yet formally released a full-scale concert tour recently, fans should be prepared to watch Colvin go back on tour and perform old classics as well as her newer songs.
Colvin started her music career in 1989 by releasing her first album “Steady On”, with the same-titled song getting her on the Top 10 list Since then, she has continued to record music for the next ten albums, three of which have been recipients of the Grammy Award for the Best Contemporary Folk Album; “This Way” (2016), “A Few Small Repairs” (1997) and “Steady On
At the same time, starting with her first album, a great part of her professional life was dedicated to concerts, where Colvin could impress fans with her stage presence and outstanding play on the guitar. Over the years, she has been performing all across the United States and has toured in Europe multiple times. The last time she had a full tour was in 2018 when she was able to go on an acoustic tour with Mary Chapin Carpenter, a long-time friend and fellow artist of the 90s. Titled the “Sometimes Just the Sky Tour,” the show featured just the two artists singing some of their most famous songs with limited accompaniment, Colvin’s hits such as “Sunny Came Home” and “Diamond in the Rough” and Carpenter’s “I Feel Lucky” and “Passionate Kisses. ” The run included several major cities of the United States of America as New York, Boston, Chicago, Seattle, and San Francisco.
The last full-scale world tour by Colvin was in 2012 for her album All Fall Down and therefore Carpenter may be preparing for another tour in support of the latest album which fans would love to see in the coming months.
Colvin is also one of those artists who can boast of having played at several well-known festivals and events in the world within the three decades of her career in folk music. Selected concerts and festival performances include the Newport Folk Festival (1989), South by Southwest, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits Festival, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, and 1993 Inaugural Ball for President Bill Clinton during which she sang ‘Steady On’ for the President and the First Lady.
As to what the fans can expect from a Shawn Colvin concert – it is undoubtedly an evening of engaging in storytelling backed by incredible musicianship. Sitting alone on stage with only her faithful acoustic guitar to accompany her, Colvin captures the essence of the viewers with the passion of her lyrics. Many of her performances are characterized by the atmosphere that makes the audience feel like they are in her house rather than a theatre. Audiences can expect to get not only the greatest hits on which Colvin built her radio career – “Sunny Came Home” and “Polaroids” – but also less-heralded album tracks and choice covers that demonstrate her versatility. She sometimes gives brief details about what prompted some songs and recording sessions over the years. Colvin also occasionally invited special guests for her shows in the past including James Taylor, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Patty Griffin, Emmylou Harris, and Sarah McLachlan.
Looking at the 61-year-old performer, one can hardly deny that this man with multiple Grammy awards still possesses the same charm on stage that has bewitched numerous fans from the very beginning. Even though she has already established herself as one of the key representatives of modern musicians, Colvin continues to perform bright and inspiring songs. For this reason, her songs remain timeless because she has been able to combine lyrical prowess with vocal passion.
As for the detailed tour dates, they have not been released yet, but the audience can look forward to more announcements of Colvin’s performances and the opportunity to witness her genuine presence on stage. She continues to perform live frequently – mostly as an acoustic artist with the occasional festival gig. Given that her schedule has been constantly full for the past decades one can only expect new concert plans just around the corner.
