Mellencamp's first major tour after Concert and Live and Unleashed live events in 2019 will be the 2023 concert series The COVID-19 outbreak forced him to postpone most of his planned 2020 shows. People have been looking forward to his return to the stage.
Mellencamp and his band will deliver a set packed with nostalgic pop-rock hits and heartland rock anthems. The fans will get to enjoy classic tunes that defined his heartland rock era along with some of the less frequently played album tracks and some new tunes too.
He is also able to switch tempo and do additional things to songs especially when performing them live compared to on an album. Thus, even the most loyal fans may hear familiar songs in a new view during this tour.
Besides the music, Mellencamp’s performance is also memorable due to the humorous and often bitter-sweet monologues of the artist who narrates about the experience of a boy from a small town of Seymour, Indiana. The 71-year-old singer has an appeal that transcends generations and can be appreciated by young and old listeners.
It will be a cross-country tour that will include more than forty cities. Some of the largest venues which are included in the tour are Madison Square Garden in New York, the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, and Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
Mellencamp is also to perform two nights at Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre and the Wang Theatre in Boston. All shows will be in arenas or larger theaters holding between 5000 and 20000 fans.

Special Guests
The press release for the tour acknowledges that there will be ‘special guests’ at some of the gigs in the tour. More information is yet to be released, although some of Mellencamp’s previous collaborators such as John Fogerty, Bruce Springsteen, or Kenny Chesney could join in at some point.
It also represents an opportunity for fans to listen to some of the less well-known songs from Mellencamp’s discography performed live. Sometimes he pulls out from his many songs that he has when fans have requested for songs during his performances when he deems it fit.
Critical and Fan Reaction
The tour has been expected with similar positive reactions from the music media outlets and fan sites. Pollstar Magazine wrote: Hence, Mellencamp continues to be a master of songwriting as well as an excellent performer, and this automatically places this tour among the most exciting for the following year.
His still-growing fanbase agrees. Comments on Mellencamp's social media pages expressed excitement about the chance to reconnect with one of heartland rock's greatest singers and songwriters:
“It has been way too long – so thrilled for this!” It is a joyful fact that since ‘82, I’ve managed to attend every tour, and the band continues to improve. ”
Mellencamp is 71 years old but by no way is he retired or inactive in terms of producing music. His concerts are still some of the most raw and politically charged in all of rock. They can rest assured that the 2023 tour will generate more unforgettable John Mellencamp experiences that fans could amass throughout his decorated career.
