  • BTS Tour: When will the K-pop boy band entertain the world again?

BTS is a popular K-pop band originating from South Korea that has recently gained immense popularity around the world. Popularly known as the Bangtan Boys or ‘Beyond the Scene,’ BTS has attracted international recognition due to hit music, dance moves, and sincerity. The group’s last world tour in 2019 was marketed as the “Love Yourself, Speak Yourself” tour, and all the concerts sold out in a matter of minutes. Not surprisingly, people have been looking forward to hearing about the next concert tour of the group.

BTS, which has not toured for over two years, has lost about 5 million fans. For all music acts, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted global touring commitments beginning in early 2020. BTS was meant to embark on their ‘Map of the Soul’ tour in 2020 but had to postpone and later cancel the event due to coronavirus scares and bans on social gatherings. They have not gone on tour or have not done the regular type of concerts since then. Currently, their record label, HYBE, has not made any recent statements about the possibility of BTS going on tour again soon.

There are a few key factors that may give hints as to when ARMY might get to see BTS headline a full-scale concert tour again: There are few factors that may give hint as to when ARMY might get to see BTS headline a full-scale concert tour again:

    Mandatory Military Service Requirements

Today, all men in South Korea are still obliged to serve in the military for approximately two years. The aging out period used to be at the age of 28 years under Korean law but has changed more recently to 30 years internationally and 29 years domestically. Currently, BTS members are between the ages of 24 and 29 years old. Thus, the oldest member of the group – Jin – will be the first to face the immediate need unless special provisions are taken. This only leaves a 2-year window for BTS to tour before members start enlisting in the next couple of years unless the government allows them an exemption or an alternative service.

    Schedule/Release Calendar

BTS usually engages in touring after the release of an album or a project to popularize the latest songs. Their last tour: “Love Yourself” in 2018-19 built on the “Love Yourself” album trilogy, and “Speak Yourself” took the concept of that tour global and stadium-sized after the release of “Map of the Soul: Persona. ” As such, it would be expected that their next tour would coincide with their next release – the upcoming anthology album that is expected to be released sometime in the later part of 2022 or perhaps another album that is set to be released in 2023. It all depends on whether they are planning on releasing a sufficient number of songs that would allow them to go on an arena/stadium tour in the following year.

    Pandemic and Health Restrictions

Contemporary concert touring pretty much came to a stop in 2020 due to COVID-19. Measures have been significantly relaxed in 2022 for virtually all significant touring markets such as North America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region. But other health considerations, particularly considering BTS’s gargantuan extravaganza of a tour in smaller, developing nations, might be constraining. Before authorizing a world tour, HYBE will evaluate when the band can come to perform for fans across the world without the likelihood of contact causing harm. The presence of BTS in these areas will influence the timing of the tour and the amount of markets to re-open including China, Indonesia, and several parts of South America.

    Scale/Demand Question

Whenever BTS declares that it is going on tour, be prepared for that tour to set records. Their 2019 “Love Yourself, Speak Yourself” tour, began in April and had only stadium stops, which yielded over 2. 5 million tickets sold and grossing over $200 million. Their popularity has increased even more worldwide since their inception in the mentioned years. Short of surprise new music dropping or member enlistments, the only question is: will their next tour perform to packed halls or will it go a notch higher to halls and bigger halls? If the timing allows it, the band is likely to perform a much grander stadium tour overseas where fans have demanded their music massively, like The Rolling Stones or U2.

When Will ARMY Get to Watch BTS Live?:

It is still guesswork to try to pin down the exact time when BTS will be back on stages across the globe. However, based on the factors above, the next 1-2 years remain BTS's biggest window to stage another world tour record before enlistment shocks the group again.

It also has an anthology album planned to be released in 2022. If they align a tour announcement to the second half of the album promotions this year, Asian dates could be possible by 2023. But large overseas arena dates look far more realistic for spring/summer 2023. This makes it possible to set adequate time for rehearsals and other preparations needed for most of BTS’s performances.

This makes a 2023 headlining tour relatively reasonable congruent with military service if Jin enlists earlier in the upcoming year. Others would still have ample time to tour the multi-continent the following year before their terms come to an end.

Oh well, with BTS, this should not come as a surprise to fans as they are always a bit creative. They may wake up tomorrow and have a different schedule altogether for the group. They may decide to tour other small countries that they have not visited as often as others first. Or they could stage periodic residency-style concert stints in places like Las Vegas or Seoul rather than a conventional traveling tour.

The only certainty is that whenever BTS does decide to bring out the news of their tour, it will gross major records. Whether and when the phenom K-pop group will perform next, it will surely become a very quick sell-out. Fans can only patiently wait for that announcement which should be made in the next year or so when the boys will be back on the touring trail with their mind-blowing concert.
