Brand New Fans Eagerly Await News of a Comeback Tour
The brand new American rock band has not been active since 2018, following the sexual misconduct charges leveled against singer Jesse Lacey. The band stopped their tour activities for the year and disappeared from all social media platforms. Since then, they have not gone live on stage or come up with new music.
Nevertheless, loyal followers of Brand New continue to hope that the band will reunite to tour in the future. This band had garnered a cult-like fan base in their nearly two-decade-long career due to their aggressive and energetic approach to music which was further complemented by their emo/alternative discography. Their final studio album to date, Science Fiction released in 2017 was well received by most critics and is considered by many as their best work. An actual reunion tour could generate massive amounts of attention.
The rumors about the return of the band have been circulating among fans for years now with brand new being their anticipated single. Redditors and tweeters occasionally leave posts that claim to have inside information on some new song or live performances in the pipeline. Well, none of those rumors have turned out to be true so far. There are, however, a few hints that indicate that Brand New might perform again in the future.
Bassist Garrett Tierney spoke in a very rare interview in 2020, and he mentioned that he is still in touch with the other members of the band. He implied he does not mind playing together in the future but stated the band is currently inactive with no plans or time frame for creating music or performing live. Earlier this year Brian Lane, drummer of the band, also kept hope sprouting by not saying that the band was no longer in existence. Instead, he said that the future was unknown and that a reunion could take place if all the members wished to come together again one day.
Procrastinate! The record label of the group Brand New. Music Traitors also raises occasional hope among supporters. LODG still offers brand-new clothing and vinyl records through the label’s website. Some people believe that if the band was officially over, the label would have no further incentives for promoting and making money from the band’s name. Instead, Procrastinate! is still coming up with new T-shirt designs and special pressings of albums that are likely to be sold out among the group’s fans.
As much as we want it, most analysts state that a brand-new return to live performances is still out of reach shortly. The sexual misconduct allegations against Jesse Lacey were severe enough that many fans and music industry personnel stated that the band still has to give more time and distance before returning. Lacey tendered an apology late last year but has not been seen or heard in public ever since. The other members of Brand New would most definitely come under criticism if the band regrouped too soon without dealing with the remaining controversy.
However, all is not lost as far as fans are concerned when it comes to seeing Brand New perform live someday. Other bands have come back after years of inactivity or have endured scandals, at least after time out for reflection. Blink-182 disbanded for five years due to friction and then regrouped and continues to tour to date. Brand New could very well take a similar route if they dedicate enough time to it. Their members are still professional and playing active in various bands, this is not even close to the retirement age.
In the following years, people may forget the details concerning the charges that have been made against Lacey. New generations of fans may appear who only want to watch one of the most popular rock bands of the 2000s perform their turnover teenage songs. If Brand New were treated with respect, they may think that the market is ready for a reunion. The last full-length album they released was in 2012, but they have seen an increase in album sales and streaming in the years that followed.
In the end, the band themselves have the final say on what is to happen. They could logically wait several more years before having the courage to come back again. However, ardent fans still hold on to any straw that might make them think that an announcement of a tour could be made. As long as Brand New has not officially stated that they are done for good, the chance is still open. Thus, their cultural impact is that a huge arena or festival outing becomes possible if more time passes. Thus, the band remains inactive and the fans remain active in their anticipation for the concert that they yearn for.
