When Blur Concert Tour?
English rock band Blur first emerged in London in 1988. Damon Albarn on vocals and keyboards; Graham Coxon on guitar; Alex James on bass; and Dave Rowntree on drums form the band. Over their almost 14-year existence, Blur has sold over 13 million albums globally; nowadays, they are regarded as one of the most praised and important rock bands to have emerged from Britain in the previous 30 years.
Blur originally became popular in the UK at the start of the 1990s with the Britpop trend and the third studio album of the band. Songs like "Girls & Boys" and "Parklife helped them become Britpop heroes; the band's quirky art pop style was defined by songs including hooks, melody, and buzzsaw guitars as well as lyrics." Blur was quite successful during the 1990s Britpop period with seven Top 10 albums on the UK charts.
But by the end of the 1990s, the band was experiencing internal strife for several reasons including regular travel, drug misuse, and band member disagreements. After Graham Coxon quit the band, the trio issued Think Tank, their final studio album, in 2003. After that, the band entered an "indefinite hiatus," during which members concentrated on personal projects.
Reunion and More Tours (2008 – 2015)
It would be another five years before the band regrouped in 2009 to perform at festivals as well as go on tour. It also meant that the chemistry was still there and the band was able to find fun in making music. This marked an active phase where Blur went on tour and performed for several years as all the members engaged in other activities and personal projects.
The band's performance during the headline show at Hyde Park in 2012 to support the 2012 Olympic Games was therefore a true comeback to form in front of tens of thousands of appreciative home fans. In early 2013, Blur was back in the studio to record ‘The Magic Whip’ - their first studio album in thirteen years and it was evident that the spark was still alive in the band. They toured globally until 2015 in support of The Magic Whip and received positive reviews. According to Albarn: “There is no endpoint to the Blur. .. I don’t think so anyway, it is fun playing with them We are always in contact. ”
Recent Activity and Future Plans (2016 – Present Day)
Since their last tour ended in the summer of 2015, the members of Blur have remained active individually but are still open to the possibility of performing as Blur in the future. Yet there have been no concrete tour plans made or documented recording sessions for the album in over seven years now.
Lead vocalist Damon Albarn has concentrated on creating new songs through side projects such as the animated band Gorillaz, the African ensemble The Good, the Bad and the Queen, and as a solo artist. Graham Coxon has also released several solo albums exhibiting his garage rock vibe while Alex James farms cheeses and music on his farmland. Dave Rowntree is a Labour Party councilor who does music production work at the same time.
In a December 2021 interview to NME, Albarn suggested that more Blur concerts are possible but no such announcements have been made. He re-emphasized that all the original members are on good terms and they all wish to perform live again as soon as possible when the circumstances permit. “I can claim myself very lucky to have three musical brothers … and I do feel I miss them! Music is supposed to be fun. ” Fans will just have to put their Blur records back on the turntables and watch the vivid concert videos in between new concert dates.
Asked by The Guardian in January 2022 if Blur would return to perform with its Glastonbury Festival’s mythical Pyramid Stage, the guitarist Graham Coxon answered enthusiastically “Yeah! That would be great fun. I think one day we will return. ” He reiterated previous comments about the band members communicating frequently and getting along, stating the current dynamic is “All good vibes and lines of communication are open. ”
Hence while Blur has not toured or recorded any new material this decade the outlook for new activity from the Britpop legends is very positive at any time in the future given the happy state of the band at the current time. It has been observed that there does not appear to be any hindrances that can impede the holding of more reunion concerts. It is more of trying to find time to come together as they each focus on their projects. Even though Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James, and Dave Rowntree may perform together in concerts or some festival in the following years, people can be ready for a rather bright and charged spectacle as the inventive art pop of Blur combines with the energy and musicianship of 30-year band experience.
