  • One of the best bands in rock history, Pete Townshend and The Who made their imprint on the British Mod movement at the beginning of the 1960s. With their impassioned performances and raw sound, the band included renowned guitarist Pete Townshend, captivating singer Roger Daltrey, and others who produced some of the most memorable rock singles and grew to be one of the most potent live bands in the decades. Though they are in their latter sixties and seventies, the Who are still able to astonish the audiences upon choice of performance. Many fans so are naturally curious: when is The Who on tour?

Currently, The Who has several shows planned for the 2023 tour, however, they do not plan on making a long tour as they have done in the past. In recent years, the surviving members, Daltrey and Townshend have concentrated their tours to a few short sessions each year probably because of the stress involved in performing raw hard rock. Their 2021 North American tour and 2022 European tour only lasted a couple of months each. The Who still performs live but cannot perform large world tours any longer, thus fans can catch them if they can incorporate some shows into their busy schedules.

The Who began their 2023 tour in February with two charity shows at the Wembley Arena in London. Money raised in the shows went to Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity that Daltrey has been supporting for many years. After those shows, the next tour dates of The Who are in May and June, where they are to play six shows in different venues in the eastern part of the United States, ranging from Tampa to Hollywood FL, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, St. Louis and Denver in early June. Additional dates may be planned but no further plans have been made at this point.

There might be a gap after they complete their spring U. S. leg in June, before The Who regroups for more performances in the later part of the year 2023. The pairing of Daltrey and Townshend has suggested that they are intending to tour the U.K. and Europe this fall and also hinted at the chances of more dates in Australia and New Zealand. But thus far there has been no actual information regarding routing, venues, or timings. Those wanting to catch later 2023 Who shows will have to wait as that schedule gets finalized. In the past, The Who increased their concert activities and shows before holidays and anniversaries. Another potential for more 2023 shows is that next year will be 45 years since the release of their Tommy album. For the album’s fortieth anniversary in 2014, the band performed the record live at various locations around the globe. Should they feel like it, a similar Tommy anniversary tour next year is something that is highly possible.

Of course, those fans who are expecting the most amount of activity will always be focused on full-on world tours. While Daltrey and Townshend scaled back touring to a few dates these days, it does not mean that one day they cannot get back with a few numbers on a big stage. Both of them in interviews over the past couple of years have insisted that some form of lengthy Who farewell tour could still take place. No particular show has been revealed or suggested yet – but it’s enough for fans all around the world to keep on dreaming. Maybe, The Who will be ready for yet another roll in 2024 or even later.

As a band that began in 1964 and is still active to this day, the Who has a wealth of possibilities regarding setlists and tours based on specific albums – such as Quadrophenia – as well as their extensive discography that features such classics as “Baba O’Riley,” “Won’t Get Fooled Again” and “Who Are You. ” And so long as Pete and Roger want to play, the Who will probably find other exciting occasions to justify other concert stints for hardcore fans.

As with any performance from The Who at this point in their career, one should never expect the best, but one does have several opportunities in 2023 to see one of the legends of rock ‘n’ roll – with likely more dates in the works for the year and possibly a more extensive farewell tour sometime in the future. When is The Who on tour? The short answer is – irregularly but significantly. Look for the dates of the announced shows in your area, watch for the new plans to be revealed, and you will likely be able to Rock Out with the Who once more live. The remnants of their desire to perform indicate that they are not quite ready to hang up their dancing shoes just yet.
